5 Tactics To Strengthen The Immune System Before Traveling As An Expert
When you're an expert, you are traveling to position yourself, make more impact, to make your influence count with your message. But -as you well know- traveling is just as draining as exciting.
How can you make sure that you don't get sick once you're about to get on stage across the ocean, that you can enjoy the 3 or 4-day seminar your invested a lot of money in? Or how can you asure a soothing relaxation time when you're taking some well-deserved time off?
Out of experience I know how challenging traveling and crossing time zones can be, especially when you have a big project on the other side of the ocean where you want to show up at your best.
So here are my 5 tactics to strengthen your defence warrior against intruders, starting at least 2 weeks before traveling so you can erase the risk of going down once you’ve landed (I’ve been there!).
1. Lower your stress levels by organizing and preparing ahead of time
With each long distance travel ahead and projects abroad, stress raises right away. Vacations are often even more stressful as there’s just SO much to do on your business end and but so few time…
Here's how to keep your cool
✗ start looking a month ahead at the (big) things that come up, what needs to be done to relax and give you peace of mind while you are gone
✗ map out all that needs to be taken care of in small, doable steps
✗ add them to your calendar and do something every day before you really "have" to so you can keep your stress levels to a minimum
Ditch the habit of waiting till the last minute to hassle yourself through your list. I know you deliver well against the deadline, but stress turns your body acidic (receptive for infections) and wears out your immune system in a wink!
2. MAKE AT LEAST HALF OF YOUR PLATE plant based AND UNCOOKED & optimize your digestion
Two things are essential to understand
1. Long story very short: when you cook your foods, your body can’t recognize the altered molecular structure and makes your immune system fight your food as it would fight alien intruders.
One of the main consequences of eating highly processed, cooked foods every day?
You'll be delivering that same fatiguing battle every single day. What am I saying? Every meal!
Your immune system gets so exhausted that it can't fight real threats anymore, coming from the germs and viruses you pick up in the airplane. Result? You get sick once you get to your destination.
2. Your immune system can only be as strong as your digestive system. So, when you wear out your digestion every day with foods it can't digest (meat, industrial & processed foods,...) your defence system is sluggish too.
How to turn that around?
✗ Make sure to eat or at least increase your amount of fresh organic vegetables, fruits and sprouts to half of your plate.
⤞ You want to optimize your digestive system by eating REAL food.
⤞ You will no longer need to destroy your food with your immune system and keep all that energy to yourself.
⤞ Plus you'll give your immune system a well-deserved vacation too, to recharge for the real deal
✗ Add fermented foods as a side dish to your current diet: they deliver loads of alive enzymes that maximize your digestion and gear up your energy for what you love doing.
A healthy, active digestive system is your guarantee for a powerful immune system!
Oh, and the bonus of your up to date digestive track? You'll lose stubborn pounds without dieting nor won't gain weight on your vacation or business trip!
3. Increase your amount and improve your quality of sleep
That’s a tough one for me too: I love the late hours, the quiet of the night. Aaah. But every time I pay attention to applying these tactics, my sleep improves quickly.
✗ Start going to bed earlier, at least 2 weeks before take off. You do need 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep to restore cell damage and charge your batteries
✗ The most important hours in the restoring process are between 10pm and 2am, so make sure to catch those every night
✗ Make sure to sleep in a completely dark room and you will release the hormone melatonin that secures your sound sleep for the rest of the night
By the way, did you know that when you improve your sleep you'll knock off a few years off your face without expensive creams? Yep!
4. Drink enough water
The most simple things are the ones we forget the soonest when we get busy. Drinking enough water is one of them.
Keeping your water levels up to the 70% your body is made of, is essential. Dehydration slows down all your body’s functions and systems, immune system included.
But how much water is "enough?"
✗ For Americans: drink half of your body weight in ounces per day
✗ For Europeans: take your weight in kg. x 3 : 100= amount of liters per day
5. Exercise 30 minutes a day: keep that lymph moving!
It only takes 30 minutes a day of your time to activate the 75% of liquids in your body that helps you fight intruders and remove toxins: your lymph fluid.
By moving, walking, jumping, exercising, you are activating that flow as your lymph system doesn’t have a motor. You become the motor by moving.
Moderate exercise increases the strength of your immune system.
✗ Can't find 30 minutes in your day to move? Divide it into 2 small blocks of 15 minutes: one in the morning, one in the evening.
✗ The most effective way to activate your lymph system in only a few minutes is: jumping up and down.
⤞ At home you can get on the rebounder for 5 minutes and build it up to 15 minutes (a nice activator of your business day)
⤞ You can do jumping Jacks everywhere and anytime: even a minute during every pause during a long seminar adds up quickly
⤞ Or take your old jumping rope in your suitcase when you travel and jump in your hotel room before breakfast
Combining these 5 tactics will help you to feel like a million at any time while crossing time zones. They will enable you to get over the jetlag sooner, override the stress that every travel includes AND get the most out of your time away.
If you're traveling extensively as an expert and it's draining you from your much needed energy, I'm happy to free up some time for you.
